TRU Expands International Partnerships with Mexico
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is expanding its international academic relations with its latest signing of three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with prominent Mexican institutions and state governments. The MOUs stem from a fall 2022 partnership initiative to Mexico organized by the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE).
TRU President Dr. Brett Fairbairn, Vice-President International Baihua Chadwick, and Special Advisor Colin Doerr recently travelled to Mexico City, Querétaro, San Miquel de Allende, Guanajuato City, and León to strengthen partnerships in the region. They met with key stakeholders, including Mexico’s Deputy Minister of public education, the federal ministry overseeing national education policy and AMEXCID, an international co-operation agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The three MOUs were signed with the Ministry of Education, Guanajuato State, Universidad Tecnológica de León and Universidad Tecnológica de San Miguel de Allende.
“Reflecting on TRU’s success in Mexico, I am reminded of the pivotal role played by BCCIE in fostering international connections. BCCIE’s strategic initiatives, particularly in collaborating with consortiums in Jalisco, Queretaro, and Guanajuato states, not only provided us with initial contacts but also sustained support. This steadfast partnership culminated in the signing of these MOUs, marking a milestone in our commitment to global collaboration and educational excellence,” concludes Baihua Chadwick, Vice-President International, at TRU.
