Vancouver, BC — Innovators, lifetime leaders and one rising star in the International Education sector were recognized for their accomplishments at British Columbia Council for International Education’s (BCCIE) Summer Conference.

• Barbara Martinez de Badulescu of the Vancouver Film School received the International Education Distinguished Leadership Award. The award recognizes the unique and important accomplishments and contributions of an international educator or member of the community who has effected change and leadership in the field of International Education in a senior leadership position.

• Coquitlam School District and Peace River North School District worked together to win the Excellence in International Education Marketing Award, which recognizes excellence and success in support of the education export sector in British Columbia and the marketing of our world-class education system. Shawn Silverstone from Coquitlam School District and Brian Campbell from Peace River North School District accepted the award.

• Josie Jiang of Northern Lights College was honoured with the Rising Star in International Education Award, which recognizes up-and-coming talent and the next generation of leaders and practitioners in the field of International Education.

• Royal Roads University and Maple Leaf Educational Systems joined forces to win the Outstanding Program in International Education Award. This goes to an institution, district or program to recognize high-quality and highly creative programming in International Education. Dr. Doug Hamilton from Royal Roads University and Dawn Sutherland from Maple Leaf Education — North America accepted the award.

• BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) won the Sector Influencer in International Education Award. This award recognizes the important accomplishments and contributions of an individual, institution or organization that has helped to positively influence, shape and transform the International Education sector for the benefit of British Columbia. BCCAT’s Jim Hamilton accepted the award.
• Gardiner Wilson and Paul Zysman were each honoured with an International Education Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes the long-term contributions made and the far-reaching impacts realized over a career of commitment to BC’s International Education sector.

One of the largest International Education gatherings in North America, this year’s Summer Conference brought together over 500 educators, administrators and diplomatic figures from across Canada and globally. It ran from June 17 to June 20.
