Announcing the BC International Student Ambassador Scholarships
British Columbia’s Ministry of Education is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the International Student Ambassador Scholarships. International students from multiple countries are eligible to be nominated.
Eligible Countries
Group 1 (Original Partner Countries) China, Japan, Korea
Group 2 (Recent MOU Partners) Colombia, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands
Group 3 (Other Partners): See below definition, purpose and application process for details
Further Information for Group 3 Applicants
- Definition: Countries that are not traditionally strong sources of international students studying in B.C., or countries in which district-to-district or school-to-school relationships are less common
- Purpose: Engaging with these countries contributes to diversity for international education programs, fosters new relationships for B.C. school districts and independent schools, and increases opportunities for B.C. students to develop their intercultural skills
- Process: Nominations for Student Ambassador Scholarship for K-12 Entry under the “other” category are required to provide a one (1) paragraph justification for how the country aligns with the intended purpose (above). Supporting documents should be attached to submitted nominations.
BCCIE is a proud partner in the administration of this award and will be receiving award nominations and distributing awards to successful nominees.
K-12 Entry Nominations
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible to be nominated by a school district or independent school, the international student must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be accepted for first-time entry into a BC public or independent school at the Grade 9, 10, or 11 level;
- Be of school age (no older than 19 by June 30, 2019);
- Be nominated by a BC school district or independent school;
- Hold a valid passport from an eligible country
Post-Secondary Institution (PSI) Nominations
Selection Criteria
In order to be eligible to be nominated by a school district, independent school or BC-certified offshore school, the international student must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be nominated by a BC school district Head of International, independent school or BC-certified offshore school senior administrator;
- Be intending to enter a public post-secondary institution or a degree program at an authorized private degree granting institution (see NOTE below for list of eligible institutions);
- Hold a valid passport from an eligible country; and
- Achieve a high academic standard, including English language ability
NOTE: Programs at public PSI and degree programs at authorized private degree-granting institutions in British Columbia are eligible for the PSI Entry scholarship. Please consult the list of institutions and programs eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program in British Columbia to confirm the institution and intended program your student is entering are eligible – institutions/programs on this list are the same as those eligible for the PSI entry scholarship.
The deadline for these scholarships is April 30, 2019.
