Greetings from the Consulate General of Japan!

We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2026 Undergraduate Scholarship offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is now open. 

This scholarship is intended for students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree at a Japanese university.

The scholarship covers:

1. Full tuition
2. Monthly allowance
3. Round-trip flight between Japan and Canada

The Undergraduate Scholarship is aimed at high school graduates, born on or after April 2, 2001 (for the 2026 scholarship year). The term of the scholarship is 5 years, beginning in April 2026 (including one year of Japanese language training).

Application guides and forms are available through the MEXT link on our website:  Deadline for the 2026 scholarship year: May 30, 2025.

Applicants who successfully pass the written application screening are required to undertake an interview and examinations (as outlined in the application guidelines). Candidate interviews and examinations will be held between July 1 to 15, 2025 on a date determined by the Consulate General of Japan. Interviews and examinations must be conducted in-person at the Consulate General of Japan’s offices in downtown Vancouver.
