Webinar: Braiding Indigenous and Intercultural Perspectives in Online Learning – One Year On
This session discusses the collective development and piloting of a Collaborative Online Indigenous Intercultural Learning (COIIL/VE) Special Topics Pathway as a tool for exploration of what it means to be Indigenous serving through Internationalization of the curriculum.
This pathway interweaves Indigenous pedagogies, intercultural perspectives, and land-based approaches with academic expectations that can be adapted to any post-secondary course offered within the community/context.
This collaborative pathway was created through dialogue with Indigenous stakeholders and communities across five BC partner institutions. (Drawing on existing expertise within the network ensured intercultural competencies and agreed-upon Indigenous pedagogical approaches were prioritized, in culturally appropriate ways across contexts.) Embedded within Indigenous ways of knowing, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were integral to the pathway development, enhancing our ability to connect with Indigenous needs and goals on a global level.
We will explore how our understanding of the complexities and diversities involved in being Indigenous serving has deepened through piloting of this pathway and ongoing dialogue. At the heart of the pathway lies the commitment to reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenization, with the voices of Indigenous communities continuing to lead the conversations.
This topic was initially presented at BC International Education Week 2024, and this webinar will serve as a follow up to learn about the pathway and how it has progressed since. Those who did not attend the initial presentation are welcome to attend.
