Risk Management in International Education Workshop
In this one-day workshop, we will help international education institutions and their staff manage risk and plan for success. This is a “must attend” for organizations across Canada that enroll international students or that play other vital roles in the education and international education system.
During the workshop we will consider these crucial questions:
- What is the risk – in terms of impacts or threatened impacts?
- What causes risk?
- How can risk be mitigated?
- Are the benefits worth the risk?
- Does risk justify the risk mitigation cost?
Education institutions face unavoidable relationship risks – or cause risks for others – when they venture into the international education sector.
World geopolitics or economic events can suddenly end a stream of students and revenue. Students may complain, demand refunds or even litigate because of alleged program failures – and well they should if there are significant performance issues because they pay tuition fees that are high and getting higher.
Students may enroll and not show up. Governments are putting conditions on funding – forcing program changes for domestic and international students. Institutions increasingly use external program developers, workplace hosts or outsourced services. That requires contract management. Study and work permit programs are subject to change. Institution or student relationships with immigration consultants, recruiters or other parties can trigger risk. Multiple homestay players and relationships are often unclear.
Who should attend?
- International education staff at colleges and universities
- Deans and vice presidents of international
- International managers at school districts
- Directors at private language schools and career colleges
- K-12 private schools with international students
