Student Mobility Planning Tool Webinar
This is a co-hosted event by BCCIE and the BC Ministry of Education.
Introduction:
We invite you to attend a webinar on the newly released Mobility Planning Tool, an initiative from the British Columbia Ministry of Education to encourage study abroad and exchange activities for BC students.
The Planning Tool was developed with a sector working group of K-12 teachers and administrators with considerable experience in planning and leading study abroad and exchange activities with student groups.
The Mobility Planning Tool is not intended to be comprehensive for all types of study abroad activities, all school district and independent school contexts, or all contingencies. It is critical that you contact your school or school district administration to determine the necessary requirements for undertaking study abroad activities with your students.
Note: The target audience is independent and public K-12 schools interested in learning more about how to develop a study abroad program
Attendees will come away from this roundtable with the following:
- Overview of the Planning Tool, where it is hosted and how to use it,
- Best Practices in planning a Study Abroad program including responses to frequently asked questions
- Q&A with teachers who have successfully planned and implemented study abroad programs at their schools
Presenters:
John Slofstra
John Slofstra is the Assistant Principal at Pacific Christian School in Victoria, where he also serves as the International Program Coordinator in a program that currently enrolls 70 international students. John has lived in Japan for a year and organized many trips for PCS students to the Tokyo and Kyoto areas.
Don Standing
Don Standing has just retired after 35 years teaching English and Comparative Civilizations at secondary schools in District 19 (Revelstoke) and District 69 (Qualicum). He has led eight student trips, both package tours and independently organized, to Europe (Britain, France, Italy, and Greece).
This is a non-paid event open to all BC public and independent K-12 schools, and public and private EQA-designated post-secondary institutions and language schools.
If you are interested in participating, please register for the event here by October 3.
