BCCIE welcomes incoming delegation from Pakistan

On May 5, BCCIE welcomed a delegation of 19 Pakistani Vice Chancellors, representatives of the British Council and Higher Education Commission Pakistan. As part of a study tour the delegation attended a one-day workshop at Langara College on the topic of BC's Education and Transfer systems, led in part by BCCIE. Langara’s Senior Administration met with the delegation to share their expertise while colleagues from BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) discussed the role of BC’s articulation and transfer arrangements that work to serve institutions and students.

"We were delighted to meet with these individuals with the common goal of building stronger links between academics in BC and Pakistan," said Colin Doerr, Director, Communications and Programs at BCCIE.

The workshop was part of a larger 10-day study tour where the Pakistani delegation visited key BC institutions and government partners.

Some of the themes of the tour included strategic planning, good governance and academic innovation. By pursuing an in-depth understanding of BC's educational framework and best management practices, the delegation can implement new ideas within their own borders.

Tour backgrounder

The study tour was sponsored by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), an intergovernmental organization based in Vancouver and created by Commonwealth Heads of Government to encourage the development and sharing of open learning/distance education knowledge, resources and technologies. COL is committed to helping develop nations and improve access to quality education and training.

One long-term goal of the Tour is to improve Pakistan's access to higher education. Currently only 7% of their population (1 million students per year) are enrolled in university.
