BCCIE continues to have ongoing presence in Brazil following a successful four years conducting in-market activities for BC’s international education sector. Through collaboration with ICEF, BC schools and institutions are encouraged to register for and participate in the ICEF Latin America workshop from September 21 to 23 in São Paulo. BC schools and institutions that register will receive a discounted rate.
In support of BC’s International Education sector, BCCIE recently announced a coordinated Team BC Mexico Mission this October 1–11, 2017. This initiative followed a successful feasibility mission undertaken earlier in 2017 where relationships were established and strategic linkages pursued with education agents and networks, schools, universities, institutions, and both state and federal agencies. Canadian Embassy and Consular offices were engaged at every stop and are encouraging and supportive of this BC initiative in target markets. This Team BC Mission will include visits to Mexico City, Puebla, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
In advance of the upcoming ICEF Latin America Workshop and EduCanada Fairs in Brazil, and the Team BC Mexico Mission in October, BCCIE invites you to join Sarah Mines, Business Development Director of ICEF Canada, in a webinar where she will reveal the latest data, developments and marketing experience from Brazil and Mexico to enable BC institutions to set a winnable marketing, recruitment, and partnership development strategy.
During this webinar, attendees will learn about:

- Where BC sits in comparison to other Canadian provinces;
- Insight into agent market; and
- Tips and tricks on how to do business in these two countries.
Brazil
Canada is well perceived as a study and research destination in Brazil for all levels of education. Canada’s greatest advantage is its strong brand, which gives Brazilian politicians, elite high schools, agents and top-ranked universities, as well as the public, a positive perception of the country. For a Brazilian student, Canada is clearly perceived as a high-quality education and research destination with a high quality of life. Brazil offers a number of positive market entry factors in the education sector, including a large target population of potential students (the fifth-largest education sector in the world, with more than 58 million students from the early years to higher education), pockets within this target population with sufficient ability to pay, and the need to up-skill the Brazilian mid-career workforce.
Mexico
Canada is recognized in Mexico as an excellent destination for study and research. In addition to its high quality education, Mexican students are attracted to Canada’s standard of living and quality of life, its secure cities, as well as work opportunities while studying, and immigration opportunities after graduation. Canadian society is recognized as open, pluralistic and friendly – values that are shared by Mexicans. The primary challenges remain a lack of knowledge about Canadian institutions in comparison with their U.S.A. counterparts, language barriers, and limited opportunities to obtain scholarships or financial support, and concerns about Canada’s climate. Nevertheless, Mexico remains the second most important source country in Latin America for international students in Canada and ranks 10th place globally.
