There were roughly 5,000 Vietnamese students studying in Canada in 2015, marking the 9th straight year of growth, and ranking Vietnam high as a source country for international students (number one source country from ASEAN). With the launch of the Canada Express Study program and more efficient visa processing together with Canada’s growing brand image as an open and welcoming country for foreign students, Canada’s education profile in Vietnam has grown dramatically in 2016. Visa applications were doubled in 2016 compared to the previous year, reaching a record high growth. Increasingly, Vietnamese students are shifting their interest to Canada as a study destination offering competitive costs and a safe environment.
Last year, a hundred and three (103) Canadian institutions and 4 provinces/national associations participated in the 8th EduCanada Fairs 2016 in Vietnam, showing the continued interest of Canadian institutions in the Vietnamese market. The recruitment fairs attracted over 7,000 interested visitors over the three days. A total of 1,038 one-on-one meetings between institutions and 109 education agents took place over the course of the two agent workshops.
The EduCanada Fairs in Vietnam continue to be an important tool in branding Canada as the destination of choice for Vietnamese students looking to study abroad. It is now also the largest education fair organized by the Canadian government worldwide.
Note: Canadian institutions are reminded that the fairs should not be the only means to recruit students. Other marketing activities should be considered as well to achieve objectives.
