Study in Canada Fairs in Kazakhstan
In October 2014, the embassy of Canada in Kazakhstan is organizing a much awaited Study in Canada Fair in Kazakhstan in both Almaty (2 days) and Astana (1 day).
Kazakhstan is a stable oil country of 17 million people with a growing middle class who can afford to study in Canada. In addition, Kazakhstan’s higher education options are currently expensive and of poor quality. This motivates Kazakhs to study abroad in growing numbers and represents strong recruitment opportunities for Canadian institutions.
Most Kazakhs who study abroad currently choose the UK. The reason is simple, Kazakhstan is a relationship market and British universities are more active in Kazakhstan. The October Study in Canada fair and the related publicity campaign off the opportunity to change this trend. This will directly benefit participating Canadian institutions since Kazakhs prefer to study at an institution where they have made personal contact.
The fairs will start in Almaty (October 10th and 11th) which is the biggest city in Kazakhstan and offers the strongest education market. The event will then move to the new capital Astana (Sunday October 12th) which is showing growing potential for recruitment.
Participation will include:
- 3 fair days – Almaty (2) and Astana (1) – with individual participant booth and support for interpretation
- Promotion of the event and of participating institutions in both cities
- Embassy of Canada briefing and networking reception
- 3 buffet lunches, 2 coffee breaks, 2 traditional Kazakh dinners
- Potential coordination of follow-up meetings on site
- Meeting with Bolashak program representatives for eligible universities (Monday, October 13th)
- On the ground logistics support (hotel accommodation recommendations in both cities, on the ground transportation and trouble shooting)
Please note that travel to Kazakhstan and between cities, and accommodation costs are to be covered separately by individual participants. Two-way tickets between Toronto and Almaty cost about $1,500 when traveling during the week (1 stop in Frankfurt) and two-way tickets between Astana and Almaty are about $300. The embassy will extend its hotel discounts in specific Kazakh hotels to participants.
Space is limited. Registration will be done on a first come first served basis.
We hope to see you in Kazakhstan in October 2014 at the Embassy-led Study in Canada Education Fair!
