Education market in the Czech Republic
As the standard of living rises, demand for post-secondary studies abroad and intensive language courses continues to grow. Canada is perceived by Czechs as a safe country offering a high standard of education. Opportunities to explore nature and take part in various sporting activities are also attractive aspects of studying in Canada for Czech and Slovak students.
The Czech Republic has 10.5 million inhabitants with 564,000 high school students and 370,000 university students. English is widely spoken (76% of secondary school students and 33% of university students are studying English), and there is also some interest in French studies (8% of secondary school students and 2.5% of university students study French).
Post-Secondary Education
Many Czech students perceive international education as a must and are ready to invest in studying abroad. They seek to gain international experience, including meeting students from different cultures, living in a new environment and getting a high-quality education.
Language Schools
Two-week and one-month language courses are the most popular for Czech students. Upon graduation, some Czech secondary school students choose to attend one year of full time language programs. Some graduates want to prepare for internationally recognized English proficiency tests such as TOEFL, FCE, CAE. Others want to improve their language skills before they start working, as prospective employers value foreign language capabilities.
Transportation to Prague
Vaclav Havel Airport Prague is situated 15 km from the centre of the city (http://www.prg.aero/en/). Prague is one of the most important Central-European rail junctions, as it is situated on the international Balkan – Budapest – Prague – Berlin – Scandinavia rail route.
