The Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing, with support from the Embassy of Canada in Beijing and the Edu-Canada Division at Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), is pleased to invite you to the SelectCanada Students and Partnerships Mission to Southwest China 2014. This mission is designed to focus on student recruitment and partnership development. Participants will have an opportunity to reach out to potential students and parents, educational agents, Study in Canada Departments at key Chinese high schools, and VIP and private banking departments of major Chinese commercial banks as well as senior officials from provincial education ministries and local education commissions.
Chongqing, a city province with a 32 million population, and the provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou in Southwest China have become increasingly important sources of students for Canadian institutions. Study in Canada Departments are being established at key high schools in Southwest China. The number of students from this region going to Canada continues to increase but there remains great potential for further growth. In addition, the Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing has been reaching out to key commercial banks in the region to create opportunities for Canadian education institutions to access their VIP clients and school-aged children. This represents a promising new source of students.
Study abroad at the high school level is becoming an increasingly viable and popular option for students in Southwest China. During the Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing’s November 2013 Canada Education Tour of Southwest China, tour participants representing Canadian high schools and school boards were exceptionally popular with the more than 2,000 parents and students that participated in education fairs in all three cities. This mission will seek to build on this successful foundation by providing a stronger focus on promotion of secondary-level studies.
Guizhou is an emerging market in Southwest China with exciting student recruitment opportunities. This mission marks the Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing’s pilot student recruitment initiative to the city of Guiyang, with visits to the New Brunswick curriculum program class at Beijing Concord College of Sino-Canadian Guiyang Campus, the Nova Scotia curriculum class at Guiyang No. 1 High School, and the Canada class at Guizhou Normal University High School.
During the Chongqing and Kunming segments of this mission, time will be allotted for schools to conduct individual outreach and partnership-building initiatives. If you wish to arrange meetings with local partners at one of these cities, please contact Peter.Liao@international.gc.ca or Jiajie.Li@international.gc.ca for more details.
