Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — At the closing ceremonies for the Asia Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2019 conference, Andrew Petter, President and Vice-Chancellor of Simon Fraser University, officially launched Vancouver APAIE 2020, the next host city for the association’s annual conference.

For the first time ever, APAIE’s conference will be held on the ‘other’ side of the Pacific, the first time outside of Asia and Australia, and the first time in the Americas. As lead host, Simon Fraser University is working with the BC Council for International Education, APAIE 2020’s organizer, to deliver the conference at the Vancouver Convention Centre on March 22–26, 2020.

BC’s education sector will be involved in planning and implementing the conference and the University of British Columbia, Royal Roads University, Thompson Rivers University, University of Northern British Columbia, and University of Victoria will be local and regional co-hosts. The conference theme “Bridging Oceans – Internationalization and Higher Education in the Asia Pacific” will focus on creating more and stronger connections between the Asia Pacific and the Americas through academic collaboration and partnerships.

Randall Martin, Executive Director, BC Council for International Education

“We are delighted that Vancouver has been chosen as the host city for APAIE 2020 and honoured as local organizers to be working with SFU as the lead host. As the most Asian city in the Americas, Vancouver is a natural choice to host this event for the first time in the Americas and to welcome thousands of international education colleagues from around the world in 2020."
