Shaanxi educators explore BC post-secondary opportunities, recruit talent

Vancouver had a distinctly Shaanxi flavour last week.

Some 50 delegates from 23 post-secondary institutions and government departments in the central Chinese province of Shaanxi came to Vancouver for the Explore International Education Opportunities in Shaanxi, China meeting on April 3 at SFU Harbour Centre. BCCIE and Ryerson Education Group co-hosted the meeting with support from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China. Seventeen BC post-secondary institutions, public and private, met with the Shaanxi delegates to discuss recruitment opportunities. BCCIE and the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange, Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Department signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to boost cultural and educational collaboration between BC and Shaanxi. The MOU signing was witnessed by China Consul General Tong.

That very successful meeting was followed by the Teach in Shaanxi Job Fair 2018, attended by more than 300 BC educators and recent graduates interested in working in Shaanxi. Some thirty applicants signed employment agreements or letters of intent with Shaanxi institutions at the fair. Many of the recruits were students from China studying in BC.
