On May 11, 2017, BCCIE in collaboration with the May meeting of the Senior Academic Administrators Forum (SAAF), gathered for a one-day symposium on International Education in Vancouver.

The symposium was attended by more than 90 participants, comprised of the Vice Presidents Academic and Education Heads from BC’s 25 public post-secondary institutions, senior leaders from the public and private sectors, government and BCCIE board members.

The theme focused on the broad landscape of International Education, and then drilled down into campus-specific issues. Other topics were covered such as interculturalizing campuses and communities, and the economics of international education in our province.

The day was structured in sessions highlighting the history of our sector, international student data, internationalization best practices, student support and private education. There was a networking lunch and ultimately a panel discussion and Q&A period in a welcoming environment.

Presenters included:

  • Dr. Randall Martin, BCCIE
  • Dr. Rob Fleming, BCCAT
  • Dr. Kyra Garson, Thompson Rivers University
  • Dr. Nancy Johnston, Simon Fraser University
  • Neil Mort, Fairleigh Dickinson University
  • Christa Ovenell, Fraser International College
  • Feroz Ali, Asia Pacific Education Co.
  • Dr. Neil Coburn, SAAF

"We were delighted to jointly host this event with SAAF and to be able to spread the good word about International Education to colleagues with whom we normally have little contact. Our speakers spoke with great authority on a number of key issues and exemplified the deep bench strength we enjoy in BC in the field of International Education," said BCCIE's Executive Director, Dr. Randall Martin.

BCCIE looks to host similar events in the future. For updates, please check our events page and keep in touch us with through our online communications.
