Recent studies show the sector is now the second leading industry in BC according to GDP. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) tabulates overall statistics on visa student mobility, and reports these figures historically by province, territory and major metropolitan area. Note that since study permits are not required for stays of less than six months, many short-term students (including ESL students) are not reported in these figures.
